hello,
I was wondering how to stop troops from routing. I was under the impression that if you had a hero in the same zone or if routing troops ran into said zone, they would rally or I would at least be given the option to do so. Today my daughter and I played a game and at one point I had my decurion and nephilim along with badly beaten up longbowmen, and billmen in the same zone. I was hit with an emssarius swipe and mangonel attack-I took loses and I thought my decurion would keep everyone in line( its why I moved everyone together) but alas, everyone but the decurion and nephilim ran away from the zone! away from the hero.
So if anyone could please explain how routing can be stopped by heroes and how it works, I would be very grateful
thanks
B-

If the decurion is the general he can use an action called rally to stop adjacent troops from routing.

Fyi your tactic of moving troops adjacent to a hero was sound because of the intimidation factor. Troops have an intimidation stat meaning bigger scarrier guys or lots of little guys will cause a moral effect. However, heros only confer a moral bonus to their retinue unless they are the general.

If the decurion was the general he would give all troops a moral bonus / malus based on affinty due to the faction. He would also boost troop morale in the zone because he is a big tough guy on your side.... But....

The emissaruious is bigger n scarier than the decurion. Also deaths in the zone from the attack furth hurt troop morale. Long story short emi is scarier than the decurion is inspiring for eveyone except the decurion ( cause he is bad) and his retinue (due to hero bonus)

I don't know if you are aware of our Wiki Mojo, but if not, you can consult this page:

Yes learning how to keep your guys from running is important. Ahh but learning how to get your opponents guys running is the how your going to win more games than you will lose moral is the game within the game , where I have the most fun.

learn which hero's best boost that units moral.
if no hero add items to boost moral of units that need it like spear men sword men
expect the veillans to run, Plan on it and use it as your strategy
keep support units out of conflict , Yimps can hop away ect
a rest cam bring up the stats in an end game and keep them from running.
the banerate skill adds moral bonas of leader that has been reduced .
the more monks singing courage and inspire the better.

I have won games with all low born,s in my muster it can be done

One of the reasons exillis rocks is that the moral system dose a better job of reflecting moral on the battle feild ,
