In order to become more familiar with the historical period Ex illis takes place in, does anyone have any recommended books?

... and yes, I do realize that the Ex illis world shifts from reality, but I think it would be interesting to understand more about the political situation, morals, and life in general at that time.

this is a fascinating time in history with the main drama happening with France and England the period of the 100 year war, this was when William Wallace lead the Scottish rebellion, when William Tell did his feats in Switzerland, when the Black prince of England raided France ,
the English had these famous kings,

King Edward III 1327-1377
Edward, the Black Prince 1330-1376 Son of Edward II

King Richard II 1377-1399

King Henry IV 1399-1413

King Henry V 1413-1422

King Henry VI 1422-146
the french had these famous rulers

King Philip VI the Fortunate 1328-1350

King John II the Good 1350-136

King Charles V the Wise 1364-1380

King Charles VI the Well-Beloved or the Mad 1380-1422

Louis I of Anjou 1380-1382 Regent for Charles VI

King Charles VII the Victorious 1422-1461

Philip III, Duke of Burgundy

there were smaller country that also played in the a hand of politics and intrigue,
the catholic church was a force whining its self doing power plays on all sides of the fence.
Robin Hood and Joan of Arc are some of the latter hero's ( can not wait till there in the game)
search all these names on the web should be able to find something
famous battles that were fought

can be found on this web
site http://www.middle-ages.org.uk/battles-t ... rs-war.htm
the latter crusades were going on during this time ,
So there is lots of wonderful story's to build a campaign around

I would say it depends on your fluff, once you have an idea of where your army comes from, libraries and arvhives

Ps once there is enough models units and heroes one could play a straight historical battles , just leave out the magic stuff . It would be nice if the was a straight history filter , as much as I like the exillis world I plan on fighting some historical battles of the hundered year war once the terrain and deployment options are there to react the battles, and the famous leader's make the game.

Come black prince :o

lots of historical gamers play this period of history

Thanks for the suggestions everyone.

I also got a recommendation from a local friend, so I'll post that here for reference:

A History of the Crusades. 3 vols. Stephen Runciman
