My first posting, my first Ex Illis miniaures. I got the starterset and thought about what kind of army I wanted to create. In the end it was quite an easy choice, I will use the obvious influence: My "neighbourhood". Therefore my army will be an hessian army, lead by Otto I.

Image

The army will contain of different units from different villages around, the small villages will be represented by vileins, the bigger ones by Chevales or Arbelastiers.

First pictures of my "testunits". I am not completely satisfied with the basing, but I'm on the right way I think...

You absolutely must do a tutorial of how you got those looking so sharp. The bases and fallen leaves look RAW!!!!!!

Can't wait to see more.

Thanks a lot! Painting was quite easy. I use Gamesworkshop Colours and Badab Black Wash, very easy and fast. Basesare just some sand painted GW Scorched Brown and drybrushed with GW Bestial Brown. Then I added some grass and some leaves. The leaves are from pk-pro (pk-pro.de).

First hero: Otto I. (or one of his leud)

I'm impressed! Really appreciate those who post pics and commentary here, as it helps a lot for those of us who are new to painting!

Well, it is absolutely no problem writing down what I did to paint the miniatures, therefore everybody is free to ask whatever he/she wants to know. I've done that much minis for the last years, colourpicking and techniques are used kind of automatically...

So, we have the Vileins from the smaller city (they still need the banner of Flörsheim and Hofheim, much to complex to paint), an Arbalestier with a shild that is in the colours of the Main-Taunus-Kreis (the shield with the other design will be used to show wich city they belong to). The Decurion is random, I thought, an angel should not "belong" to anybody. Same goes for the Soffrance. I really was not sure how to paint this guy, so I painted him like I painted the bases and made him look like some kind of golem... whatever... The Hobelar has the crest (dictionary told me so?) of Fulda on its clothes, well.. thats all for the moment...

i think ill copy what you did to the soffrances. Dipped in sand like the bases and only the face and the blade showing. Mmmmmh, nice idea

Nice soffrances, that was 1 of my two ideas for them, but I went for darker look, maybe next unit. You did it well.

I had the exact same idea for my soffrances. In my muster/collection I renamed them to Bog Elementals and was going to do the exact same technique on mine. I've been forced to holding off as I didn't have any static grass or reindeer moss and I'm waitning for the local hobby store to get it in stock.

I was wondering just how good it was going to look and I'm kinda jealous that you beat me to it. ;) Nice work and well done.

I'm still going to press on with my version and I'm eager to get started after seeing yours. I wasn't thinking of putting any birch seed hulls on as leaves but it does look good.

For those who posted about wanting to learn about making great bases like these...

http://www.skullcrafts.com/flock_tutorial003.htm

Skullcrafts.com have kits/products that make it dead easy to make fantastic bases.

And one final note on the paint jobs on your units..... Fantastic. You are talented.

A battle board in the autumn would be very cool (and jind of unique, I have never seen one before!), but I think there is not that much place here to build one... :D

But: I finished the Vilein unit:

Thanks! The lack of detail with these models is on the other hand quite positiv, you can give the models a good paintjob that does not take for years...

Ympes:

Pictures are a little blurry, I'm sorry, the batteries of the camera are low... ;)

Edit:/

I was also thinking about writing some more Background of my army but was kind of knocked out by the fact that Frankfurt and Mainz where destroyed by the mongolians... Damn! My Idea of an evacuation scenario of one side of the River is now gone I think. In fact, it is very easy to defend this landscape here. There where just a few bridges therefore a destruction of frankfurt (in fact, this is not that complicated, in 1300 frankfurt had less than 8000 inhabitants and not even a propper wall around the city) would still be not that of a problem, but Mainz is on the other side of the river. With more than 25.000 inhabitants this would have been my "defence wall", together with the hessian army that was more than active that time ("Thüringisch-hessischer Erbfolgekrieg") it would have been easy to make the invaders go 'round them, either to a nearlly unsettled part of germany in the west, or the heavy fortified Bavaria in the southeast. Now I have a Leader for my army that normally would be dead by 1300 and an army with forces from completely destroyed citys... Should have read the story more early I think! :D

About your story...

You could just rewrite history a little to fit your background. Let's review... while there are ties to history in the game there is a level of deviation from reality. The fog. Ympes. Soffrances. Magical Gusts. Blade swinging angels.

The way I see it is this... Based on those thing mentioned... a precedent has been set by the game's developers and I'd forgive a little rewrite for a good background story. ;)

It should after all be one thing over everything else. Fun! Enjoy your army and tell your story rather than someone elses.

Try to keep to andree-annne (the exillis writer) stuff, but you can have things that don't perfectly fit. Heck, I have rastamen in my backround and it made bastion laugh a lot

Well, I would post on the wiki, but 'till now I have the problem, everytime I try to open a new topic, I get logged out automatically.. Don't know why...?

Well, here are my bilmen. Yes, they are from Mainz (that was destroyed) and yes, I forgot one in the box! I'm not satisfied with the banner, it is not very well glued together, maybe I will change that, it also is a little bit too big.

For the login problem, you need 2 accounts: one on the normal wiki, and one on the player wiki

Ah ok, this makes sense. I started with an article on the wiki for my Hessian vileins. My english is not very good and the story needs some more details, but for the beginning it is quite ok I think...

Edit:/ What I will do next:
